T'was the Night Before Christmas (Cheesecake version)

T'was the night before Christmas,
When all through Caffeinees, Christmas songs played on air,
While sipping cold chocolate and shaking her knees,
Lolipoops decided on making a cake, mixed with delicious cheese..

The siblings were nestled all snug in front of their PCs,
While Lolipoops scanned through the recipe book,
Which teaches how to cook,
Baked and chilled cheese cakes, they seemed so easy.

When out in the store, there, arranged without clatter,
An array of cream, cheese and butter to make people fatter,
Looking at the piece of paper,
Brown sugar, digestives, cornflakes and butter,
Cream cheese, powdered gelatine, and thickened cream,
Fresh orange juice, mango essence and castor sugar,
Not to forget, a box of orange jelly crystals.

First the base, 110g of butter mixed with digestives biscuits; 200g,
Crushed them together with 50g of cornflakes and 2 tablespoons of brown sugar,
Fried them fragrant, and pressed it on the cake pan,
Then a phone call and Lolipoops forgot to press it firmly with a hand.

Next the batter, 500g of cream cheese and 120g of castor sugar,
Squeezed 3 oranges and mixed them together,
Dissolved 2 tablespoons of gelatine in hot water,
Last, 300ml of thickened cream and beat it smoother.

Everything went into the springform cake pan,
With a piece of foil, covered the top nice and neat,
Into the fridge the cheese batter was sent,
And overnight Lolipoops waited with gritting teeth.

When dawn came it was all and well,
Out came the pot and 2 and 1/2 cups of water,
Into the pot went 85g of jelly crystals,
This was where Lolipoops got it wrong, dear oh dear,
Jelly thickens easier with lesser water!

Took out the cheese cake to make the topping,
Onto the cheese cake, Lolipoops was pouring,
3/4 of the jelly she had been boiling,
Cake pan was full, it had been telling.

From 10am to 4pm Lolipoops waited,
Cheese cake was wobbly while it got sliced,
Jelly was droopy 'coz not that thick,
The base was crumbly, bits of them falling like rice!

In horror Lolipoops transferred the cake,
The sister took a swipe and licked it off her thumb,
"Mm-hmm..it's yummy-yum-yum!"
Albeit the disastrous table from the mess it made.

Lolipoops tasted it and pondered what went wrong,
Was NOT bad at all though the chilling it took so long,
So a picture was snapped on the teeny camera phone,
If you think it looks ugly, you are not alone!

Another journal of weird and wonderful Korean cuisine

Hen-chan came to knew about this restaurant that's hidden just behind the Great House that I had mentioned in my previous blog entry. I was going to puke into her face if Hen-chan brought us to another restaurant that serves the same thing like all restaurants did, but my oh my...what a surprise! It's a few doors away from Caffeinees (which I may or may not blog about next).

Tadaaaa..! Spicy chicken, deok bok gi (spicy rice cake),vege, yam, potato all mixed on a "teppan" (hot plate). You can choose to wrap your "chikin"(that's how the sweet Korean girl pronounced it) in the big vege leaves served on a small plate, or eat it from the "teppan" itself.

Next, "ramyeon" is mixed into the teppan and I know this thing looks like mee goreng mamak. The chikin flavour doesn't taste that strong but overall it's nice to eat.

We were served a bowl of cold kimchi soup. It's full of crushed ice, and it tastes...weird and weirdly refreshing. Never had such soup  before, but according to Chan-chan, it sure reduces all the spiciness of the chikin!

This is how the teppan looks, it's really big...later they fried rice with seaweed on the same teppan after scraping up a thick film of oil and debris. Interesting...

The making of a zaru soba meal. Do try this at home.

Soba:
1) Buy a pack of zaru soba i.e. "ざるそば" in Japanese , "buckwheat noodles" in English, from any Korean minimart or Japanese mart if you like... and the sauce for soba (got that from the Korean minimart). Mine's fish-flavoured.
2)Boil water and put in your soba sticks and make sure it is soft enough to prevent indigestion.
3)Drain the water and rinse your soba a few times, cold tap water will do.
4)Put some ice cubes onto your soba or chuck the bowl of soba into the fridge (which is the easiest!)

Sauce:
1)Mix 2 parts of sauce, 5 parts of water into a small cup and stir kau-kau and taste. If it's not enough pour in more sauce.....

Chow-time:
1)Take out your soba and get your chopsticks ready.
2) Dip your soba into the sauce and enjoy!

We felt like healthy old citizens....

Hen-chan, Chan-chan and I went jalan-jalan cari makan the other day for korean cuisine near my home. Since we had patronised 90% of the restaurants located in front of Ampang Point, we decided to explore the "unseen" ones at the back of the Korean Village. The week's week before, we had dinner at this "lengchai" restaurant as Chan-chan calls it, because the waiters are soooo "lengchai" - got tattoo lar, got ear stud la, it seemed like we were being served by male hosts like the ones in Ouran Hosts (the anime), but the food was........SO-SO. Most probably the lady boss knows her business well. Sex sells...like MTV.

SO, we explored the shop across the street from where the lengchais are working the following week, and we stumbled upon a comely-looking restaurant with yellow signage, titled "The Great House".

You cannot miss this sign.

The food looks normal, but wait till you get in and make your order.

My bowl of cold noodles in healthy yellow-bean broth + fresh cucumber slices and I had almost finished it...

Then, unlike the usual watermelon platter, we got these!!! Incase you are wondering what-the...?!? We had gulped down fresh and sweet tomato juice and had forgotten to take pics :P

And these were the dishes we had finished, no clues left on the table as to what we had eaten... Tee-hee...

Nothing to shout about of the interior but our chief target was the FOOD!

The Great House has great healthy food at great prices, cheaper than the average Korean restaurant.... what more can I say....too full to say anything except :BURP:

And, the nice Korean lady manning the restaurant had a good thing to say about us - she gave thumbs up for finishing up her food...ahahaha...and she'd presented us her name card which is all in KOREAN!

p/s: Hen-chan, so you wanna call up the auntie and tell her we'd advertised this so next time we can get discounted rates?

My car needs bandages

My car's rear bumper (plasticky body kit) is now officially scarred for life. Both corners have paint peeling out in curls because of my carelessness...new driver mah, what to do? Must remind myself not to be a lazy driver, especially parking right in front of my home. The 2 slabs of concrete supporting the walkway of my house and my neighbour's are still standing strong. A friend of mine once got a large piece of her car bumper torn out when she forgot to go slow and park her car in. Nevertheless, quite a few people were not spared either from the beastly stones.

The injuries are too small for a bodykit overhaul and not that small either to ignore. Looks ugly. How I wish I can dab some superglue like how you dab antiseptic to your knee and all will be well again...

I thought got 24Hour service?!!

I really cannot stand the attitude adopted by you porks lah.... why is the customer service line near my home always engaged and busy everytime I dial after 8pm? Are phone lines not opened 24hours for immediate customer servicing? Why do you put up a big Advertisement Saying You Are Open 24Hours for Delivery and Dine-In? You are TEMPTING ME LAH YOU DEVIL! Your red colour pamphlet got all the tasty food and nice toys, so pretty......they make me want to pick up the receiver and dial your number. My mouth is watering already while I'm typing this, so embarrassing....but you you you DEVIL! You let me see don't let me order!
Don't dupe me lah!

It happened yesterday

And the blardy young malay fler carrying his gf in his MPV sped off like nothing happened.
I was too shocked and forgot to take his carplate number, while my car got a VERY BIG SCRATCH and dented slightly above the wheels. I managed to brake in time but my car still banged into his driver's door.

Thank goodness nothing serious happened but to those taking this lane to Ampang from MRR2, please be extra careful as there are hooligans like this blardy fella who will think nothing of breaking the law and causing hurt and stress to other people.

I am so angry and sad I couldn't do anything about it.

I can't wait!

My teeth are having some serious movements these days and I'm suddenly getting gaps in front, at the sides and the gaps would disappear and appearing again after a while. I can't wait for my front upper teeth pushed back to cover those gaps. I can't wait to have nice teeth like normal people do!!!

Yippee!

This piece of long rubber can do anything YOU WANT!

Lately I have been fiddling with my new workout tool called the...Jeng jeng jeng!

RESISTANCE BAND!!!!

It's called Gym in My Pocket or something and I got it from a fitness store in Pavilion for quite a hefty price(RM84) for this long thin, smelly pink rubber that is supposed to do wonders to your body.

It comes in a nice oblong box with several posters of instructions on using this rubber made into a loop. What I need to do is, stretch it with my hand grabbing one end or my feet stepping on it firmly or hooked around my waist or around my forehead then I do stretches. You can stretch almost any part of your muscle group and boy, I could sweat it all out with this measly looking rubber! Recently I am soooo into doing my triceps so I won't have wobbly chicken wings when I wave bye-bye.

Here's how you do it....

Not that I'm promoting or hard-selling this long rubber but it's particularly good if you dont' like weights and your living room is fully occupied with sofas, a big coffee table, cabinets and your sister or your mom lying around on a hot day to nap....

And then, it came with a free gift from the store, something to put on the rear window of my car lest they don't know I have toned muscles, it screams "FIT & FABULOUS ON BOARD".

I'm too embarrassed to stick that up, what if people driving behind me are curious to see how I look and then laugh gau-gau when they look at me.. how???

So, to all you girls out there reading this, I'm giving a nice car window signage for FREE. Who wants?  :D

My car horn "tweets"

Driving in KL is soooooo unsafe!

Yah, if you are a KL-ite or you have been staying in KL for a while, you'll know what I mean!

I never thought driving would be a strenuous workout for my head, legs, arms and my heart. All the pushing, pulling, swerving, emergency braking and tensed moments finally got to me. Before I got my car, I thought it was all this.........

But I was wrong! This was all A DREAM! D-R-E-A-M! The naivety in me ceased as soon as I met big road bullies in big Wajas/Benz and I am forced to swallow the bitter pill....I can't fight them in my small Kenari with my honk......my car horn??? It TWEETS!!! How the *censored* could I *censored* the *censored* off their *censored* bigger cars?! Wuuuuu....(T__T) I flew into a rage with clammy hands stuck on the wheel and couldn't do anything but looked at them honking me like nobody's biz. And it wasn't my *censored* fault!

My friend says ignore them.

I have decided on my umpteenth day of driving, the only option left was to become a *censored* driver when there are big bullies around me.

By the way, I saw an expat forcing out his car from a junction just last week. Gee, even foreigners learn fast! How could they not afford to? And then I had to -tweet- him with my horn. My friend was laughing her head off coz I couldn't find my horn in time. They are located on each side of the steering wheel and each time I had to -tweet- I couldn't feel the location properly, and by the time I found the them, it was too late to -tweet- but NEVERTHELESS! I still -tweet- -ed. See? I'm learning pretty fast too!

Whenever I reminisce all the honking and swerving of the BIG BAD CARS out there in KL, it makes me shiver~ even female drivers are bold enough to swerve out suddenly without signalling. What stupidity! What if my car hits your *censored* and your car hits the front *censored* They never think of these????

Oh well, I have no choice, really. Maybe it's a blessing in disguise for my office to move so far away from town. But then again, when I drive to my new office, I gotta look out for cars flying past at 200Kmph...............

Deep sleep is scarce...let alone beauty naps

Seriously, I don't know how to cope with the start of a working week. Although I had 8hours of sleep yesterday night, the accumulated insomnia from the past week are starting to show their effects, I'm currently having dark undereye circles and walking with a slumped posture - I wonder how I managed to drive my friends up, down and about town yesterday despite feeling drowsy and tired.

How am I going to maintain my beauty regime being tired??? Imagine falling asleep while putting on mascara and lipstick...musta look alot like the Joker with the "Why so SeRIOuS?" makeup. Sigh.

Upgraded!

After going through several occasions of frustrations on my photography outings, by not being able to fully control my LX2's lens to do the type of focusing I wanted, I've finally decided to let my camera lens GROW.... hence, the photo you see up here, the brand, and by not explaining anything here I think you would get what I am trying to hint. Hehe...

How do you spell theraupetic? thereaupetic? thereupaetic?

The english tuition I'm giving to a student is oh-so getting into my head...madam vorravay was spelling it on our msn chat a moment ago and I couldn't get the word spelt correctly without looking at the dictionary. I'm so gonna choke myself with my tongue trying to spell it. Aghhh.Gaackhh.

The correct spelling is Teh-ra-piu-tic (therapeutic). Wonder how I managed to make it to the finals of the Spelling Bee contest when I was in school.
